New Release Describes Struggles, Triumphs of Incest Survivor – Book by E. Diane Champé

For the first 21 years of her life, the author suffered from child abuse and neglect in her own home. Her young parents include an emotionally distant and depressed mother and a Navy dad who showed no healthy boundaries with his children, whether touching them inappropriately or whipping them with a belt. The only place the author felt truly safe was at school. “I was their captive for 7,665 days before I left home on my wedding day,” she writes in the introduction of this memoir of survival. “It was not until I was 55-years-old that I finally stopped seeing the world through the eyes of a traumatized child.”

Conquering Incest, published by Dog Ear Publishing, describes the author’s humiliation and confusion when her father fondles and rapes her, as well as her happiness at falling in love and escaping her abnormal home life. But her husband quickly becomes controlling and depressed, and eventually their marriage fails. Despite the horrific details, the author’s story is one of hope. She begins to regain her life when she starts seeing a psychologist, although it will take 23 years of therapy and five hospitalizations – including integrating multiple personalities – before she can gain the happiness she deserves. “Anyone interested in understanding the impact of severe sexual abuse, and the difficult path to recovery, will benefit from reading Ms. Champé’s book,” writes Catherine Busch, a child psychologist in Columbia, MD.

Author Diane Champé began working in the mail room of a Fortune 20 company and eventually became a strategic planner on the Regional Vice President’s staff. She has dedicated the rest of her life to speaking out about child abuse and neglect and to helping other adult survivors of abuse. She worked on a national trauma campaign for SAMHSA, a division of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Her site, www.wearesurvivors.org, highlights issues affecting adult survivors of child abuse and neglect. More information about her book can be found at www.conqueringincest.com.

Winning $40 Million Lottery Ticket Leads to Fraud Trial in New Legal Thriller – Book by A. Ben Henderson

On the verge of retirement, former Marine Whittaker Parks lands the case of a lifetime. He meets John David Bain, permanently disabled after a heart transplant, who is trying to get back what he thinks he deserves. His wife, Lola, won $40 million in the lottery and tried to hide the money and have their marriage annulled. Helping Bain regain what he has lost is worth taking on the most well-connected law firm in East Texas.

Told through details only someone intimately familiar with the legal system could create, The Annulment follows the workings of the case, from its earliest days when Lola gets an annulment to shouting matches in the law firm’s conference room at the first allegations of fraud. Violence in an alley, a detailed deposition and Parks’ riveting opening statement in the jury trial add to the tale’s suspense. Although the final verdict may be shocking, it’s nothing compared to how the story really ends.

Author A. Ben Henderson works as a salesman for an international company that helps lawyers and law firms achieve excellence in the business and practice of law. When he was a young boy in Mississippi, Henderson had two dreams: to play professional basketball and to become a lawyer. He played college basketball at Houston Baptist University and clerked for one of the oldest personal injury law firms in Houston. A sales call with a client presented the idea for “The Annulment,” his first legal thriller. For information about speaking engagements and appearances, visit www.abenhenderson.com

Former Adult Entertainer Holds Nothing Back in Tell-All Memoir – Book by Bruce Headrick

Growing up in the Bible Belt with a conservative mother and preacher father isn’t easy when you’re attracted to boys, especially if you’re also hyperactive. An arrest during a sting at an adult bookstore leads to him attending a Baptist prep academy away from his family. He enjoys his time there but quickly moves away from home after graduation. Headrick’s life changes again when he meets “Madame” Wayland Flowers, who gives him a taste of Hollywood. Eventually he begins living as an adult video star, performing as Blake McDonald.

Tell Secrets – Tell No Lies, published by Dog Ear Publishing, follows Headrick’s story as he first models, strips and works in the escort servicing, encountering celebrities and a world of perversion and malice. This provocative memoir serves up details of life as an adult video star: hanging out with drag queens, a weekend trip to New York City that leads to a risky romance, his first porn video and posing for a magazine. Headrick holds nothing back, relaying both juicy details about escort encounters and glimpses of the love that fills the homes he has shared with his lifelong companion.

Author Bruce Headrick set off to explore the world and make his mark in it on his 17th birthday, having lived in Tennessee, Mississippi and Texas. He and his partner, David, live in Las Vegas. His work has been mentioned on “Chelsea Lately,” “The Howard Stern Show” and the “National Enquirer.” It’s his hope that the book will give strength to anyone “struggling with being different, facing the bullies, feeling alone in the battle” to be themselves.

Get an insider’s look at fishing around southeast Washington State with a record-holding fisherman. This detailed guide provides descriptions of lakes and their immediate area, as well nearby places to stay. Fishing tips offer everything from what kind of bait might work best to rules about equipment, as well as noting if the author hasn’t fished at that site. A Fisherman’s Guide to Selected Lakes of Southeast Washington features lakes in Adams, Benton, Columbia, Franklin, Lincoln, Spokane, Walla Walla and Whitman counties. Readers will get the lowdown, both good and bad, about what kinds of fish bite at each lake, and which exact spots prove productive. The book also contains sections on lakes that have “vanished,” including Draper and Icehouse lakes in Lincoln County and Sulfur Lake in Franklin County, and places on the Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge now closed to fishing, such as Beaver Pond and McDowell Lake.

John Moore, a 10-time Washington state record holder, has certified weight records for five species of fish. Born and raised in Washington in an outdoor-loving family, Moore has spent his whole life exploring for new places to fish across Washington, Idaho and Montana. This is his 9th fishing guide.

New Release Offers Wild Ride into the World of Law Enforcement Motorcycle Clubs – Book by Karen Katz

Thundering down the highway on their trademark Harley Davidson motorcycles, Outlaw Motorcycle Gang members, such as the Hells Angels, are not hard to miss.  Black leather vests with the 3-piece back patch, motorcycle boots, skull jewellery, side knives, long unkempt hair, scraggly whiskers, and elaborate tattoos set them apart from other motorcycle riders on the road.  Outlaw bikers embody the spirit of rebellion and reject the cultural norms and values of conventional society.  “FTW” is their motto and arrogant attitude by which this subculture attains in goals and objectives.

In contrast to the outlaw bikers, police officers are law abiding and sworn to uphold the traditional cultural norms and values of mainstream society.  Law enforcement officers and outlaw bikers are most often viewed as being two distinct subcultures, whose norms, values, and beliefs are in complete opposition to each other.  However, according to law enforcement sources, the distinction between Outlaw Motorcycle Gang members and law enforcement officers, which was once a clearly drawn line is now becoming blurred.  In fact, some law enforcement officers are creating and joining Public Safety and Law Enforcement Motorcycle Clubs whose members allegedly emulate the outlaw biker lifestyle.  Playing cop by-day and biker by-night has placed many of these public safety and police officers in a tenuous position.  As a result, numerous law enforcement officials at all levels have turned against their fellow police officers due to their membership in these types of clubs.  Not only have the cop-bikers alienated themselves from some of their fellow law enforcement officers, but one-percenter Outlaw Motorcycle Gang members are also angered by police officers who imitate the outlaw biker image.

Behind the Patch, published by Dog Ear Publishing, goes behind the scenes of the Renegade Pigs, the Warthogs and the Iron Warriors Motorcycle Clubs.  Author Karen Katz spent several years conducting in-depth fieldwork into the Public Safety and Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club subculture.  Public Safety and Law Enforcement Motorcycle Clubs represent a social response to the breakdown of the police subculture, specifically, the erosion of brotherhood, internal solidarity, and camaraderie within police departments.  Police officers who shared a passion for riding motorcycles created their own unique hybrid subculture in order to restore a sense of brotherhood and belonging amongst themselves. Through motorcycling, Public Safety and Law Enforcement Motorcycle Clubs, provide their members with meaningful social participation and interpersonal relations, which re-establishes meaning and a sense of purpose in their lives.  The salient features of the subculture are brotherhood, the wearing of colours with the 3-piece back patch and riding Harley Davidson motorcycles in group formation.

Katz writes in detail of this unique hybrid subculture.  She delves into such topics as the law enforcement and outlaw biker controversies over the formation of the clubs; the history of the clubs; the purpose of the clubs; their political structure, and the role of women among other things.  Photographs throughout the book add an element of realism to Katz’s project.

Katz has long been interested in understanding both the Public Safety and Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club Subculture and the Outlaw Motorcycle Gang subculture.  Katz has received a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Criminology and a Master’s of Law, specializing in Criminal Law.  Katz is known for her impeccable research skills and she has a reputation as being the “data hound” for her unique abilities to track down even the most obscure primary and secondary data.

New Release Tells Teenager’s Heart-Wrenching Story of Battling Cancer – Book by Sean Waller

Tim Levine is on top of the world. The small but popular eighth-grader has just been invited to try out for the high school baseball team and two girls have asked him to the school dance. A devastating diagnosis, however, changes his life forever: He has cancer. Instead of following his baseball dreams, he’s entered a nightmare of tubes and chemotherapy. Tess, a leukemia patient with a “contagiously positive attitude” works wonders for Tim as he faces high school not as someone belonging to the “in” crowd but as a sick kid.

Sick Boy, a heart-wrenching story, is a “fictionally autobiographical account” of this extraordinary young man’s year-and-half journey from diagnosis through treatment and on to recovery. It begins when he casually mentions to his mom that he can’t hear out of his right ear. Doctors quickly discover that he has a fast-growing malignant tumor in his upper palate. First chest and stomach tubes are inserted, followed by chemotherapy and radiation. His growing friendship with Tess and a hospital clown brings a new perspective and teaches him the importance of comforting others.

Author Sean Waller, a childhood cancer survivor, was diagnosed at age 12 with rhabdomyosarcoma. He credits Memorial Sloan-Kettering Hospital in New York City for saving his life.

New Non-Fiction Release Forthright Discussion of Faith, Religious Practice – Book by Sigrid Suyo

From childhood through early adulthood, Sigrid Suyo was a staunchly religious Catholic, fervently believing in the tenets she absorbed from infancy.  However, as she grew older, her faith began to falter and doubt crept in.  Disillusionment accompanied the doubt, and a deep sense of loss settled over her.  But, a positive attitude and an open-minded examination of a more natural spirituality allowed her to re-define her faith in a way that wasn’t dependent upon a formal religious institution.

Using Suyo’s own personal experiences, From Faith to Reality discusses such deep and often extremely personal topics as the efficacy of prayer, the spirituality inherent in nature, and the very nature of spiritualism.  This book is meant to inspire “those who may be on the cusp of doubt about their religious beliefs,” and enlighten the lucky people who are perfectly content with their inner spiritual lives.

From Faith to Reality, published by Dog Ear Publishing, is clearly a labor of love; Suyo shares her most personal thoughts and ideas with the readers with the hope that these will somehow help another person seeking perspective about religion and spirituality.  A retired Corporate Management Development Specialist, Sigrid Suyo lives in Arizona with her husband.  Born in Germany, Sigrid came to America as a child, and values the “privilege of living in the greatest country in the world.”

New Release guides children to treat others with kindness – Book by Christian Thomas Kaye

A selfish rabbit draws children in to this sweet story that shows God’s love and kindness for us and how we can show others kindness and make a real difference in the world. Rachel, a Mini Lop who weighs just 4 pounds, is small for her age and is afraid of people. She has crooked teeth and doesn’t share her food with the other rabbits. She doesn’t like it when her owners brush her fur. And she doesn’t appreciate the other rabbits when they help her stay warm or play with her.

Rachel the Homely Rabbit, published by Dog Ear Publishing, draws parallels between the selfish rabbit and children who don’t act kindly, whether they ignore other children or call them rude names. The story reminds children of all ages of Jesus’ commandment to treat others as the children would like to be treated, pointing out that a simple act of kindness may be all it takes to help someone feel better. The easy-to-follow message, accompanied by watercolor illustrations by Aubrey Albright, guides children to a better understanding of God’s kindness to the world and how to share it with others.

Author Christian Thomas Kaye, who has two active sons, is a rabbit owner. He finds purpose in “showing how God’s word is relevant to the life of children and adults alike through true stories.”

New Release Puts Bible into Everyday Terms for Dealing with Life’s Lemons – Book by Judith Webster

Modern lifestyles bring modern troubles, but an ancient source of wisdom has the power to help ease the pressure everyday life presents: the King James version of the Bible. As the author writes, who better to tell us how to relax than God, who cares for a family of six billion children? His words are an attempt to guide His children through life, from making meals from scratch — as scripture describes the manna He created for the Israelites – to turning the other cheek as Jesus did.

God Wears Sneakers, published by Dog Ear Publishing, uses Bible verse to provide a roadmap for living a good life while caring for the world. It aims to show readers how to live a godly life without worshipping other gods that seem to gain more importance, such as money and power. Each chapter begins with a Bible verse, followed by practical suggestions like keeping promises, being kind and sticking it out when the going gets tough. Inspirational stories from both the Old and New Testaments provide scriptural examples of each chapter’s message. As the author concludes, life keeps us busy, but following the Bible’s examples will keep us on the path to grace and enjoy life’s blessings.
