Meet BK, a Child who Angers and Annoys Everyone around Him!- book by Georgi S. Blake

When he was born, little BK was just like any other baby, but soon he developed an ugly habit of kicking and howling to be the center of attention at all times. Eventually BK manages to disrupt everyone around him by acting up and doing silly things like kicking his own bottom! Unfortunately, BK’s parents think that his antics are cute and entertaining. BK’s behavior bothers his teachers, classmates and people at church. Even his own grandparents don’t want to be around BK anymore!

In this new children’s release, Dog Ear Publishing author Georgi S. Blake, a retired school teacher, tells the story of a disruptive and rude little boy. Most likely all of us have a BK amongst our family or friends, a child whose parents never took the time to teach how to behave appropriately. The illustrations by Dinah H. Waterman bring out both the humor and the horror of BK’s antics. Butt Kicker: An Obnoxious Tail is an amusing book for children and their parents that teaches a very important lesson about how not to act!

One Man’s Story of Resilience and Survival after Progressive Lung Failure and a Double Lung Transplant- book by Gavin Maitland

In this true story of survival and perseverance, author Gavin Maitland recounts his extraordinary life experience of being in top form, nearly losing his life to lung failure, and going through transplant surgery. When he was in his mid-thirties, Maitland, an avid swimmer and marathon runner, developed a progressive and debilitating lung disease that left him scarcely able to breathe. Doctors gave him six months to live. In March of 2008, Maitland received a double lung transplant at the Duke University Medical Center. Maitland not only recovered from his transplant surgery, he participated in a triathlon just 13 months later!

In Breathe and Let Go: A Lung Transplant Adventure, published by Dog Ear Publishing, Maitland touches on the many obstacles he encountered, such as identifying and diagnosing the cause of his deteriorating health, the hard realization that he needed a double lung transplant if he wanted to live, the challenges of being accepted as a transplant candidate and the daily tasks he must complete after transplant surgery to stay healthy. Filled with drama, down-to-earth humor and honesty, readers in all walks of life will be inspired by his story of courage and determination.

The “F Factor” Shows you How Live a Balanced Life in an Unbalanced World- book by Eric James Schindler

Today the world seems to be out of control and out of balance. The American dream of “having it all” has been replaced with mounting piles of debt, fractured relationships and stress. At one time, author Eric James Schindler was burned out and stressed out trying to achieve “it all”. Then he discovered the principles of The F-Factor – principles that changed his life. For the first time, the author was able to “have it all”: a loving relationship with his wife, personal and financial health, a strong faith and positive relationships with his children and close friends. Regardless of what happens in the economy or world conflict, you can experience a balanced and fulfilled life as well.

The F Factor, published by Dog Ear Publishing, shows us that by following God’s principals for success in five key areas of life – Faith, Family, Fitness, Finance and Friends – you can live a balanced life in an unbalanced world. The author explores these principles in chapters focusing on your unique purpose in life, how to achieve connection and significance in your family and personal relationships, how to manage your stress, importance principles on wealth and more. Once you read this book, you too will have the F-Factor tools for success: the power of goals and the knowledge of how to make outstanding decisions. You can direct your own destiny toward fulfillment or failure by the choices you make. The F Factor could be the most important book you’ll ever read.

Short Stories and Poems Take Hold and Refuse to Let You Go- book by Berna Deane South

In this engaging book of short stories and poems, award-winning author Berna Deane South takes us on a journey through the human experience. It’s a tribute to her superb storytelling that in so few pages, South can tell a story whose characters will stay with you long after you’ve finished reading about them. In Among the Feathered Warriors, published by Dog Ear Publishing, a child remembers the strange visitor who brought her dying mother comfort in the form of strange, beaded dolls during her last days, a woman confronts a religious zealot who comes to her door to talk about her six-year old boy with a heart condition, a young boy tries to cope with his parents’ separation and a litter of hungry, newborn kittens, and much more.

In the tradition of revolutionary Southern writers like Flannery O’Connor and transformative poets like Anne Sexton, Berna Deane South’s work vibrates with impatient life. And like no one else, South’s voice opens your heart to a world we recognize as the honest shadow of our own, a world where everything is treasured but nothing is safe. The poetry and prose in Among the Feathered Warriors will take hold of you by the throat and refuse to let you go.

Berna Deane South has received the Harcourt, Brace, and World Fellowship for the Novel at the University of Colorado Writer’s Conference, the Indiana University Foundation Scholarship for the Novel, the Indiana University Scholarship for Poetry, and the Indiana University Writer’s Conference Citation for superior work in progress in the Short Story. She is also the recipient of the Award of Excellence – Short Story from The Festival of Missouri Women in The Arts. In 2004, South received the Delaware Division of the Arts Individual Artist Fellow in Fiction Award.

Inspirational Stories from Earthly Plane, Spiritual World- book by Virginia Ozue Seibert

As each of us travels down the road of life, we encounter curves, mirages, and potholes which may seem daunting. It is how we perceive the value of the obstacles along the way that makes us who we are, and whether in the end, we see our personal journey as nurturing or neglectful. In this book, published by Dog Ear Publishing, the author uses her storytelling skills to share true stories from her own experiences on “this side of the veil”, as well as stories shared by those who have already gone “beyond the veil”.

“Seibert’s Café” is based on the author’s uncle who is a successful businessman in a small Texas town in the fifties. His journey was not simple. None are! Experience the ebb and flow of his life in dreams with him on a hot summer’s day. “Our Blessing” conveys the author’s life and the love of her new baby. It is this unique occurrence that assists her and others down paths they would have never chosen. In “No More Secrets” Seibert shares her mother’s end of life journey as she sees beauty, love and angels everywhere.

Stories from the “Other Side of the Veil” are those of spirits who have shared their stories with Seibert. “There is no such thing as coincidence,” the author writes. “We have family and loved ones who want to help us”… and to share their memories with us, so that we know we are not alone or unloved on our often shadowed paths….”I acted as their scribe.”

“Ruth and Margaret” is a shared journal of secrets long hidden in shame by two Irish sisters who immigrate to the United States. They are survivors who face incredible obstacles of deprivation, poor health, and poverty in the 1800’s. And yet, they are never alone, because they have each other.

“John’s Testimony” is told by John who was born a slave in Louisiana in 1859. Forced to leave his home, he became a traveling boy/man, a railroad man, as he loved and lost across this country in search of a real family. He wanted love. He sought freedom. The author travels with John as he searches, and the reader travels the same road immersed in his longings, joys, horrors, and disappointments. Ride the rails with John as he journeys.

Mythical Memoir Explores Life, Religion and the Modern Altered State- book by Daxx Danzig

This book, a memoir loosely based on the life of fictional character Daxx Danzig, is the story of a narcissistic, egotistical hypochondriac and how he overcomes severe panic disorder to find God, peace and partial sanity. Take a trip through the mind of this near genius, starting with his first – and last – experience with LSD in 1978. The experience begins auspiciously enough but quickly turns into a nightmare of horrific visions and behavior that causes onlookers to think Daxx is possessed. That night sets in motion everything that is to follow, including Daxx’s encounter with a mystical stranger “that would have profound effect on his life.”

Because of panic attacks and imagined physical danger, Daxx begins living only within a 15-mile square radius to his parents’ home by 1982. Follow his adventures from two near-death experiences as an assistant deputy sheriff working in a jail, to his pranks and misadventures as a hotel security expert, failure in a variety of casino jobs and connection to the psychologist who uncovers the root of his evils and guides him through a divorce. Along the way, Daxx encounters his guardian angel at critical points in his life. As his life improves and he finds true love and a rewarding profession, our hero is guided to make a life-altering decision – to publicly witness his faith.

From Acid to the Body of Christ, published by Dog Ear Publishing and written by Daxx Danzig, is a contemplation of God and reality, linked with the help of nature. History is filled with efforts to realize the human goal of bridging the gap between man and deity. The author’s findings are enlightening, rather than conclusive, asking readers to examine their own lives as they read about his.

A Collection of Poetry Reflecting Traditional Values, Life’s Joys and Sorrows- book by Ashley Goldsworthy

In this collection of poetry, published by Dog Ear Publishing, we see the world through the eyes of Ashley Goldsworthy, a family man, husband, father and grandfather. His poems are personal reflections about life, its special moments, joys and sorrows. In one poem he recalls with tenderness the birth of his grandchild, in another he playfully describes the experience of buying his first car with his wife. Goldsworthy also reflects on the whimsical realities of everyday life such as cocktail parties, political correctness, and the evils of television. Throughout these poems we see a portrait of a man dedicated to traditional values, family, marriage and a reverence for God.

Idle Moments, Some Personal Reflections is the result of years of jotting down thoughts and poems in airports and planes while traveling on business. The subject matter ranges from the mundane to the arcane. Some are spontaneous outpourings all over in a flash, others a painful search for the right word or expression. In any case we are fortunate that poets like Goldsworthy exist to capture the feelings we all experience during life’s journey.

Historical Novel Tells Story of Real Characters in Roswell Incident- book by Chet Sapalio

In 1947, the United States of America was a happy place to be. World War II had been won, couples were having babies and people trusted their government. Everyone was chasing the American dream. For the military, however, the Cold War and its related arms race were heating up, as countries raced to build the first H-bomb and nations were jostling to see who could build the biggest nuclear arsenal. This is the backdrop of the historical novel Sworn to Secrecy: The 1947 Roswell Incident by author Chet Sapalio, which focuses on real military and political characters of that incident, weaving a saga about how their participation affected their personal and professional lives.

While flying a nuclear bomb training mission, Army Air Corps Colonel “Butch” Blanchard sees an object traveling at an impossible speed that almost collides with his plane. When the unidentified craft crashes in the desert just outside Roswell, N.M., Butch is put in charge of the cleanup. He is suddenly dealing with alien autopsies and technology when five “humanoid” bodies are found near the crash site and becomes entangled in a government cover-up. He spends the rest of his professional life working with those who organized the cover-up. His career aspirations and government cover-up clash with his quest to expose the truth, as he ultimately is promoted to deputy joint chief.

Sworn to Secrecy: The 1947 Roswell Incident, published by Dog Ear Publishing, is set against a backdrop of the dawn of the nuclear age and explores man’s need to understand his place in the universe and his drive for self-preservation. Readers will experience one thrill after another in this story of power struggles, conspiracy and cover-up that finds support in historical documents and photos included in the final pages of the book.

Sapalio, a physicist, whose research has focused on alternate propulsion methods, including warp drive, produced “Conspiracy X – Government Secrets Revealed,” a television documentary, in 1999 after living in Roswell, N.M., and researching the 1947 Roswell Incident. He served on the board of directors for the International UFO Museum in Roswell while living there.

Guide Explains the Twelve-Step Recovery Program and How it Can Help You or Someone You Love Overcome Addiction- book by Bruce Brown

We live in a society where addiction is rampant. Whether you or someone you love is addicted to drugs, alcohol, sex, gambling or any other vice, there are ways to beat the addiction and get your life back. One such healing method is the twelve-step program. Most people who have never been involved with a twelve-step program have no idea what to expect. The purpose of this book is to de-mystify what goes on in such programs and explain the nature of twelve-step recovery.

In Understanding Twelve-Step Programs, a Quick Reference Guide, Dog Ear Publishing author Bruce Brown describes the basics of the twelve-step program and what it entails. Each short chapter of the book highlights a particular component of the process including: Meetings, Withdrawal, the Twelve Steps, Working the Steps, Sponsorship, Common Prayers and Promises. After reading this reference guide, those who are considering entering a twelve-step program and newcomers who have just begun the process will have a better grasp of what to expect. It is also a useful tool for ministers, therapists and anyone who might want to recommend a twelve-step program to others.

Bruce Brown came into his first twelve-step program in early 1993. Since then he has attended at least ten different types of twelve-step programs. His recovery has involved meetings in fifteen states covering all regions of the U.S. as well as online meetings. He has sponsored over twenty people and worked intensely with ten sponsors of his own. He has worked the Twelve Steps numerous times.

Guide Shows Teens How to Discover their Learning Style and Excel in School- book by Ron Fitzgerald, D.Ed.

In this new release, author and educator Ron Fitzgerald has developed an easy-to-read guide for teenagers to help them learn more effectively. He has over 50 years of experience as a teacher, school superintendent, state director of educational research, and multi-state consultant on brain-friendly learning and quality in the classroom. According to Fitzgerald, recent brain research indicates that each brain is unique and that people have very different learning styles. Unfortunately, most academic programs follow a traditional approach and expect everyone to learn the same way. The exercises in this handbook will help teens discover how their brain works best and how to use it most effectively to excel in school and college.

Brain-Friendly Learning, published by Dog Ear Publishing, is divided into four main chapters. In chapter one Fitzgerald introduces the concept of brain-friendly learning. In chapter two he discusses how we receive information, the characteristics of left-brain and right-brain thinking and also each of the different learning styles: auditory, visual, somatic and reflective. Chapter three covers how we process and use information and the importance of emotional intelligence. Finally, chapter four includes a quiz to determine your own learning style and provides techniques for improving your weaker areas of learning as well as your memory.

Brain-Friendly Learning is presented in an easy-to read style that will appeal to most teens. If you are an educator, this guidebook can provide you with a reference for converting traditional teaching methods into more brain-friendly techniques to help your students succeed.
